Clap & Crap: Post match reaction to Exeter 0-1 Barnsley

Clap & Crap: Post match reaction to Exeter 0-1 Barnsley

A game that was low on highlights from either side certainly in the final third was won by the Barnsley substitutes thrown on by manager Neill Collins. That’s 5 straight league away wins with an aggregate of 11-1. We take a light hearted look at the positives (clap) and negatives (crap) from the Reds performance. You’ve heard of Praise or Grumble well here’s our version.

Steve`s views:

Clap – Mael De Gevigney goes from strength to strength. He was composed, calm and seems to be the only one of the current back 3 who can pass a ball. McAtee looked good coming on as a substitute but like a few players at the moment, he needs to do it from the start.

Crap – Our passing at times is woeful from a number of players. Herbie Kane looked uninterested and O’Keefe looks out of his depth.

Carlo`s views:

Clap – Mael De Gevigney once again proving what a defender and a great signing he is. Composed and not afraid to go forward when the opportunity arises. Despite the loss of Lopata to injury, De Gevigney has excelled.

Crap – The first eleven never really got going. Collins substitutions changed the match for the positive. Whether it’s mindset or whatever who knows? But Collins is still searching for his best eleven. McAtee & Cotter were good when they came on and were positive from the off. A great away win but the bar saved us from conceding two goals.

Ian`s views:

Clap – Thankfully the substitutions swung a poor game in our favour. The squad depth is better now and gives Collins options and he was brave enough to go for the victory and not settle for a point.

Crap – Once again we do not know our best eleven. Too many players fail to take their opportunity when given a start. The midfield once again looked mediocre at best.

In Summary:

Who doesn’t like a last minute winner especially away from home? Last season Exeter did the double over us in convincing style so it was nice to win at a ground where we seldom do. Exeter looked blunt now they are missing Sam Nombe and Jay Stansfield, two players who did so much damage against us last season. Praise for Neill Collins for going for the win and not shutting up shop for a point. Can we play every game away from home?

  1. So the Kane mutiny continues. In the game I watched he played very well and showed absolutely no signs of being ‘disinterested’. But if it fits the narrative…
