What Barnsley can expect from Burton Albion this Saturday

After back to back victories on the road in the league, Barnsley return to Oakwell on Saturday and face Burton Albion.

We asked a Brewers fan, Tom Elliot, for his thoughts on Burton`s season so far, how ex-red Jasper Moon is performing & who the reds should look out for on Saturday.

Burton currently sit 3rd from bottom in 22nd place with 2 points from their opening 6 fixtures. With only 2 goals scored you can see where the Brewers problems lie but let’s see what Tom has to say about our next opponents.

Describe your season so far

Our start to the season so far has been disappointing when you consider the hype around our transfer window this summer. Optimism was high for a good start especially with how we ended last season under Dino. Granted we have had a tough run of fixtures to start the season but it’s the manner of the performances that have been most alarming and looking completely inept in both boxes. Injuries to key players have not helped though with Cole Stockton getting injured long term in just his second appearance for us when he was the main hope for some goals. Jamal Blackman our new keeper from Exeter started the season as number one and injured himself doing a ‘cruyff turn’ during the Shrewsbury game which kind of sums up the start to the season but has now lost his place to the brilliant Max Crocombe who has been a huge positive since signing from Grimsby.

Is your manager, Dino Maamria under real pressure given the poor start to the season?

Dino is in one of the safest jobs in world football. The chairman is very loyal to his managers, gives them all the time they need and more to try and do a successful job, which is quite a rarity in this day and age. Some fans have voiced concerns over the poor start to the season yet again but I don’t believe Dino is in any immediate danger of losing his job. Results will have to improve soon though.

Who should Barnsley fans look out for in the Burton side on Saturday?

Josh Gordon, our summer signing from Barrow, is a live wire up front, does not stop running and deserves a goal for his performances so far. Jasper will be keen to put in another commanding performance at the back. The star of the squad is undoubtedly Mark Helm. The youngster who signed from Burnley last January is a star in the making and scored the goal in the home draw with Bolton. He will be the main threat for the Brewers.

What formation and style of play can Reds fans expect from the Brewers?

Dino usually sets up with a 5-4-1 away from home, three centre backs and two wing backs who will try and bomb on in counter attacks. Barnsley will certainly have the majority of possession but we will look to hit teams on the break away from home. It won’t be easy on the eye but hopefully the longer we can frustrate Barnsley the better chance we will have at grabbing a vital point.

How has Jasper Moon been performing since his move from Oakwell?

Jasper has been an absolute revelation at the back for us. I’m not quite sure what went wrong with him at Barnsley when you watch how brilliant he has been for us. He had a hugely successful loan spell last season and there won’t have been one single Albion fan who wouldn’t have wanted him back permanently in the summer. He’s been one of the few positives again so far this season and long may it continue.

Give us your score prediction for Saturday.

Barnsley away is always a tough one for us. I’d snap your hand off for a point.
